Project Description

Croatian School Museum – History of Education

Croatian School Museum displays around 1000 exhibits from Croatian school and teaching history. The only museum in Croatian specializing in education.

TIP: IT IS HARD TO TEACH TODAY, IMAGINE WHAT IT WAS LIKE A 100 YEARS AGO.

Croatian School Museum opened its doors in 1901, after winning a prize at the World Exposition in Paris in 1900. The only museum in Croatia dedicated to teaching and education.

The museum is dedicated to preserving and promoting school and education. They exhibit past materials and try to present conditions in which teachers used to work in.

The exhibits include mostly 19th-century posters, school and teaching materials used in various subjects. In this way, they present an insight into Croatian history and school system. The way it looked like a hundred years ago.

It is a small museum, which specialises in education, a science we mostly take for granted. Although information is highly available today, it is hard to teach today, experience how hard it was 100 years ago. Without computers, the internet, mobile phones and today’s modern accessories.

Teachers, 100 years ago had their knowledge of the matter which they needed to pass on. With only the available materials, which highly evolved in the past century.
