It was once a stream that divided two oldest Zagreb settlements – Gradec and Kaptol which was than deverted due to contamination by all the shops.
Fun fact, in the period from 1899 to 1941 almost every house in Tkalciceva Street was a brothel. As it is in the centre, all windows had to have opaque glass and red lanterns, making Zagreb the first city in Europe with proper red light district.
