Zrinski Mine – Experience a Miners Life
Zrinski Mine is a Middle Ages silver mine. Renovated in 2004 it is the only mine in Croatia open to the public. Learn about the daily life of miners from the Middle Ages.

Zrinski Mine is located in an area called Miner’s Garden, close to mountain lodge Grafičar. The mine started to operate in the 16th century and was owned by the Zrinski Family.
Unfortunately, the mine was never productive in spite of superhuman efforts. For example, they needed to mine a ton of galena in order to get half a kilogram of silver.
For this reason, the mine was finally closed in the middle of the 17th century.
It stayed closed until 2004. When it was renovated by the Nature Park Medvednica making it the first mine in Croatia open to the public.
The medieval mine holds many intriguing exhibits and is fully accessible for visitors.
Inside you will find the St. Barbara chapel, as well as in every mine in Croatia. After all, she is the patroness of miners.
Medieval Days on Medvednica
You get to go back a few centuries and become a participant in historic events. Experience how the medieval miners extracted ore and how they smelted silver from it.
You can also mint your own silver coins, try out fencing, mace throwing and archery.
By all means, taste Middle Ages honey delicacies and medicinal plants.

Closed on weekdays, Easter and in case of really bad weather.

The visit is only possible with licensed park guide (included in the price).

Become acquainted with the daily life of miners from that time. In other words, listen to miner stories and get a glimpse of mining hard labour.
Find out how miners discovered and transported ore.
The temperature within the mine is about 12C throughout the year. Therefore, carry warm layered clothing even during warm seasons.
The entry is not recommended to persons suffering from claustrophobia.
Close by you can find Mountain lodge Grafičar.
Open from Tuesday till Sunday from 9 AM till 9 PM.
Closed on Monday.
How to get to Zrinski Mine?
From the Mountain lodge Grafičar, it is a short stroll away. Just follow the signs!
To get to the Mountain lodge Grafičar on foot, follow the educational trail Miroslavec from Šestinski Lagvić to Kraljičin zdenac. Afterwards, cross the paved road and continue on hiking trail 1M all the way to Grafičar. This is a steep climb.
Public transportation
You can take the Sljeme bus from Mihaljevac to Tomislavov dom. Then walk to the mountain lodge Grafičar along the road or follow hiking trail no. 26.
Parking
You can come by car. Just follow the Sljeme road to the mountain lodge Grafičar and leave your car there.
