Zagreb City Museum will show you all aspects of the city. Showing Zagreb under the influence of politics, the church, history, economy, town-planning and architecture, the history of art and literature, and everyday life.
The Museum building was once the Convent of the Poor Clares and is a historical monument itself. Their most valuable exhibit.
The exhibition shows the lifecycle of Zagreb through 45 themes. Built around the artefacts the Museum possesses.
You will find a prehistoric settlement constructed in the 7th century BC. Starting with the Hallstatt culture of the Early Iron Age and a house and workshop of the La Tene culture of the Late Iron Age.
The archaeological map shows visitors the most important sites and finds in the city!
Themes cover a range of historical and cultural aspects of Zagreb. For example, clashes between the Kaptol and Gradec in medieval times. The Ottoman threat in the 15th century and the 19th-century Croatian national revival. World War II era, the socialist era, and Zagreb in the independent era.
Along with the permanent display, the museum hosts regular cultural and theme exhibitions and live historical performances.

What can you see and do at the Zagreb City Museum?
It is a terrific starting point to learn about Zagreb because you will get to determine how the city came into existence and learn about its culture.
Be amazed by the museum’s artefacts! Start off with the museums archaeological finds. They are located in the same place where they were uncovered.
Themed sections include Iron Age artefacts, reconstruction of 19th-century Ilica shops and study rooms of Croatian artists. You will also find a room-sized floor map of Zagreb’s 19th-century Lower Town. Complete with scale models of the Green Horseshoe buildings.
It takes about 3-4 hours to go through the museum.
Accessible for disabled. The security guards will be happy to give any assistance required.
How to get to Zagreb City Museum?
Its an easy walk from ban Jelačić Square some five minutes walking distance. Head up Radićeva or Mesnička streets or take the funicular from Tomićeva Street.
