Typhlological museum in Zagreb is one of the rare museums in Europe dealing with the problems of disabled persons.

As a matter of fact, the museum exhibition is completely accessible to the disabled.

Not only is it a place in which people with disabilities can participate in its activities, but also a place which enables you to become familiar with the lives of disabled persons.

Raise your awareness by experiencing the Dark Room. Feel free to grab one of the poles before entering. Once you enter you might wait for your eyes to adjust, but they won’t. Allow your remaining senses, touch, hearing and smell to guide you.

What can you see and do at the Typhlological museum?

In the first place, every exhibit is reachable and touchable so it is accessible to the disabled.
A museum where your senses are awakened and provide you with insight into a different world.

For example, the Dark Room lets you experience the world without visual information. It forces your remaining senses touch, hearing and smell to awaken. The experience is recorded and you can take it with you as a souvenir. All will appreciate seeing what it takes to function as a blind person in a very visual world.

Seeing-eye dogs, rehabilitation and therapy dogs are welcome. A fully accessible toilet is located in the Museum.

Visually impaired

Can freely move through the Museum with the help of the Braille guide or with the guidance the museum’s staff.

Hearing impaired

Please announce your visit in advance by email and join a sign language group tour on Wednesdays.

Mobility impaired

Can easily access the museum’s exhibition area and storeroom. Please note that there is no permanent ramp into the building so please announce your visit.

How to get to Typhlological museum?

The Typhlological Museum is located in the centre of Zagreb, close to hotel Sheraton.

Public transportation

Take the tram no. 6 from ban Jelačić Square heading west toward Sopot. Get off on the third stop, Branimirova Street station. Turn into Draškovićeva Street. You will find tactile strips on the pavement that will take you from the tram stop to the Museum.

Parking
