National University Library Zagreb is the largest University Library in Croatia. Croatian temple of knowledge with large collections of books, audio and video materials, and other media.

TIP: THE LIBRARY SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE ONLY FOR REGISTERED LIBRARY USERS.

National University Library Zagreb is a beautiful and modern building. A treasury of knowledge with a primary goal to provide a place for research and learning.

It is the best place to study because it offers large spaces and quiet. In other words, everything you’d expect a library to be.

Free WiFi is available throughout the building, but it is not stable.

Not only does the library offer study areas, but also areas for relaxing and dining. Coffee and restaurants can be found on the ground level.

Whilst providing a space for learning, at the same time, their goal is to identify and preserve Croatian cultural heritage. Making it available to researchers, scientists and the public.

National University Library Zagreb History

The library was established in 1607, making it one of the oldest libraries in Europe. During its 400-year old history, firstly, the library was housed in the Jesuit grammar school in St. Catherine’s Square.

As the collection grew, in 1913 they moved into an Art Nouveau Secession edifice located in Marko Marulić Square.

Afterwards, it became inadequate for the library’s 2,500,000 volumes and the library moved in 1995. Into to the newly built National University Library.

The Library was built to accommodate the large collection and provide a space for learning. It extends over 36,000 square meters. Comprising of 12,900 metres of shelves in open access and 110,000 metres of mobile shelves in closed stacks.
