Croatian Railway Museum

Croatian Railway Museum exhibits rare railway vehicles, machines, devices and equipment. All used during the development of the railway system since 1860. Recommended for train fans!

TIP: THE NUMBER OF MUSEUM VEHICLES IS INCREASING BECAUSE VEHICLES ARE TAKEN OUT OF SERVICE.

Croatian Railway Museum does not have a permanent exhibition. The Museum’s temporary location is in the southern part of Gredelj. They are displaying railway vehicles, machinery, devices, archive materials and other historically marked items. All connected with the development of the railway system in Croatia since 1860 until today.

Gredelj is a factory of railway vehicles situated in the very heart of the city and is due to relocate. Built-in 1894 it is unique for its architectural integrity, machines and equipment. As such it represents a valuable part of Croatia’s technical and industrial heritage.

Once the factory is relocated, the Croatian Railway Museum will be situated in the oldest part of the factory. A protected cultural heritage of the Republic of Croatia.

The most interesting, of course, is the Collection of railway vehicles with steam locomotives. A total of 26 museum locomotives and 2 wagons were renewed.
They are showcasing 20 railway vehicles. Steam locomotives MÁV 377, JŽ 62, 116, 11, 51, 33 and electrical locomotive JŽ 361, and DEL HŽ 2061.

The oldest display is a steam locomotive 125-052 (MÁV 326.363) that was built in 1891 in MAVAG.

A 1965 mail wagon is also fully restored and exhibited at Zagreb Train Station. It can be used for exhibitions and multimedia presentations.

The great thing is, the number of museum vehicles is increasing. Because vehicles are taken out of service.
