Academy of Music is the oldest musical institution in Croatia. Modelled after the Musikverein. Not only are they situated in a gleaming new contemporary building. But, above all, they are organising numerous shows throughout the year.

Academy of Music is the largest and oldest musical institution in Croatia. Tracing back its origins to 1829.
Seeing that at that time Croatia was a part of the Austrian Empire the musical school was modelled after the Musikverein in Vienna.

After World War II the Academy was recognized as a higher education institution, As a result, it became a part of the University of Zagreb.

Zagreb has been passionately involved in classical music for a long time. The Academy of Music helps by actively participating in the artistic life of the city.

Traditionally they organise two major concerts at the prestigious Lisinski Concert Hall.

At the same time, they stage almost 300 various smaller concerts in venues across Zagreb and the Academy of Music itself.

There are the Virtuoso, Timbar and Jeunesses Musicales concert series. Together with the Academy’s choral and operatic productions.

What can you see and do at the Academy of Music?

The Academy is housed in a newly renovated and impressive building. In front, you can see a metal sculpture which symbolises a sun ray and the sun.

Although it is a university institution they are actively participating in the artistic life of the city of Zagreb.

They host cultural events open to the public in conjunction with the Croatian National Theatre.

The Academy is situated in the reconstructed Ferimport building at the Republic of Croatia Square.
